Basic Function and Responsibility:

The Assistant Controller will report to the Controller and is responsible for accurate and timely financial accounting and reporting duties as an integral contributor to the Foundation’s overall accounting and reporting function.

Job Duties:

  • Problem solve and demonstrate sound judgement for various complex accounting projects
  • Engage as a strategic thought partner within the accounting department
  • Thoughtfully innovate and promote a culture of high performance and continuous improvement
  • Lead the completion of the Foundation 990 and 990T
  • Review weekly accounts payable transactions, ensuring compliance with donor intent, Foundation policies and applicable state and federal regulations
  • Review and approve journal entries prepared by accounting staff members
  • Review and approve balance sheet account reconciliations in a timely matter and ensure all reconciling items are resolved
  • Assist with the annual financial statement audit
  • Create customized financial reports and prepare ad hoc reports as needed
  • Provide training and support to campus partners
  • Assist the Controller in preparing materials and coordinating preparation of minutes for Audit Finance Committee meetings
  • Identify and resolve complex accounting problems in a timely manner
  • Gather and analyze information
  • Implement approved procedures and procedural changes through effective communication
  • Develop and document written procedures to improve systems, internal controls, and operational practices
  • Other duties as assigned

  • An understanding of the state and federal regulations that relate to the Foundation and non-profits
  • Knowledge of financial and accounting reporting systems
  • Three to five years of progressively responsible experience
  • Fund accounting experience; CPA certificate; Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration or a closely related field preferred
